Split Pea Soup

Just tried this recipe a few weeks ago and have made it twice already!  I made one batch and put it in screw top tuperware containers in the freezer for individual servings.  It makes for a healthy lunch that I can just pull out and microwave!

1 lb. bag of split green peas
6 cups water
1/2 lb diced ham (I buy a smithfield steak that is already cut to about 1/4 inch thick and then just cube it - works great!)
1 small onion diced fine
2-3 red skinned potatoes diced
3 carrots, sliced
1 tsp of jarred garlic
3-4 bay leaves
6-8 whole allspice

Put peas, garlic, water, diced ham, onion, bay leaves and allspice into pan.  Let simmer until peas are mushy - the longer the better.  When it reaches this consistency add potatoes and carrots and simmer (with cover on) until veggies are tender.  Salt and pepper to taste (or leave out and allow people to add salt and pepper to taste individually).

Very easy recipe!  If you like split pea soup, you should like it!  My kids aren't big fans, but my husband loves it!
**** (I give it 4 stars because I love it!  Not 5 because the kids don't :(
