Golden Sweet Cornbread

This is one of the many recipes I have found on allrecipes.com. If you've never been there, head on over and give it a look-see!  Its a great website full of recipes!!!  Here's the original recipe if you'd like to see it and read the reviews: Golden Sweet Cornbread
A couple of things a I really love about allrecipes.com:
1.) There are tons of comments about all the recipes.  This is great because you can tweak the recipe the first time you make it.  For example, if tons of people say, "This was a little too spicy, so I used half the chili powder,and it came out great..." then I might just go ahead and half the chili powder the first time I make the recipe, etc.  I ALWAYS read lots of reviews when I'm considering a recipe on this site.
2.) People can add pics of the recipe when they make it.  I love looking a pics of the food.  Sometimes it helps me decide just how much I wanna make it.  :)
3.)  It has an "Ingredients" search page where you can type in ingredients you have on hand (and even the ones you don't have) and it pulls up recipes for you.  I love that!

Anyway, this was a recipe I searched for when I wanted some seet cornbread.  Now, I'm from the South.  I like my tea and my cornbread both sweet.  That's the way it is.  I make no apologies for it.  If you too like sweet cornbread, this recipe is for you!  :)



Golden Sweet Cornbread

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup yellow cornmeal
2/3 cup white sugar
1 tsp salt
3 and 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/3 cup vegetable oil

1.) Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Lightly spray 9 inch round cake pan.
2.) In a large bowl, comine flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt and baking powder.
3.) Stir in egg, milk and vegetable oil until well combined.
4.) Pour batter into prepared baking pan. 
5.) Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

I've also made this as muffins and mini muffins.  You can't go wrong.  Its DELICIOUS!!!!

  1. Just a thought so you can savor the recipe forever. Get a cheap frame from the dollar store, and frame it :)That way it won't get worn or something spilled on it, etc. Hang it in your kitchen somewhere

  2. Cayman, I think the blog posted your comment on the wrong post. I'm guessing you meant to suggest this for the recipe I said was written in my grandmother's hand - "Grandma's Family Pork Chops." That's a GREAT idea!!!! Thanks so much!!! I'm gonna do that! What a wonderful momento to keep in my kitchen!!! :)
